Day course “digital accessibility – introduction and practical implementation”

This one-day course is aimed at web developers, content editors, and accessibility managers who want to create and implement accessible websites. With practical examples and a set of useful tools, we will show you how to ensure the long-term accessibility of your project.

  • Location: The courses usually take place at Friedheimstrasse 8 in Zurich-Oerlikon, at “Access for all” (near Berninaplatz)

Content

The course provides basic knowledge about accessibility and the practical use of the most important principles and tools for maintaining, editing, and developing accessible web sites. If you have special interests, send us specific questions or topics you would like to have covered. We will be happy to take your suggestions into account. In the course we cover in particular:

  • general topics related to accessibility
  • the practical implementation of accessibility
  • a screen reader demonstration
  • tips and tools you can use to test and ensure accessibility

Target groups

The day course “digital accessibility – introduction and practical implementation” is for all professionals who want to take accessibility into account in their work, especially people working within the following fields:

Goals

The participants:

  • recognize barriers for people with disabilities on websites and apps
  • are sensitized to the needs of those affected
  • are informed about target groups and legal frameworks
  • know the relevant standards (WCAG)
  • get to know tools for testing websites and apps (browser bookmarklets and add-ons, colour contrast analyser, screen reader, and others)
  • get an introduction to how to use screen reader software as a testing tool
  • learn how accessibility can be considered in a project in a cost-efficient way
  • learn what needs to be considered in web development (HTML5, JavaScript, WAI-ARIA) and in content editing (semantic structuring of content, text alternatives of graphics, etc.)
