Since 2004, we have regularly carried out accessibility studies to check the state of digital accessibility in Switzerland.
2023 Accessibility Study
In the “2023 Swiss Accessibility Study – Mobile Apps”, we provide well-founded and fact-based information about the current state of digital accessibility on smartphones. The focus is on apps that are used to manage everyday life in Switzerland.
2020 Accessibility Study
Due to the boom in e-commerce, the 2020 Swiss accessibility study focuses on the accessibility of online shops and makes a disillusioning finding: 1.7 million people with a disability encounter partially unmanageable barriers when shopping online and are thus excluded from online shopping. There is an urgent need for action and online retailers are called upon to remove these barriers.
2016 Accessibility Study
For the 2016 accessibility study, we tested one hundred websites of the federal government, federal-related companies, cantons, the ten largest cities, universities, news portals, and online stores, as well as 15 mobile apps of news portals for their accessibility.
Twelve years after the Disability Discrimination Act came into force, the picture remains disillusioning: Web offerings for people with disabilities are still shockingly inaccessible.
2011 Accessibility Study
How accessible are Swiss websites? Why do one million inhabitants of Switzerland who are affected by a disability still encounter websites with barriers? What needs to be done to improve the situation in the long term?
Answers to these questions are provided by the 2011 accessibility study, in which we tested 100 websites of the federal government, cantons, the ten largest cities, federal-related companies, media, job boards, universities, public transport companies, Internet TV offerings, and online stores for their accessibility for people with disabilities.
2007 Accessibility Study
The 2007 accessibility study is an assessment of the accessibility of public sector websites for people with disabilities and for older citizens. Sixteen websites at federal level and of federal-related companies, 26 websites of the cantons, and 8 of the public authorities were tested.
2004 Accessibility Study
Right before the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) came into effect on January 1, 2004, we prepared the first Swiss accessibility study in cooperation with Namics.
